Do any of these comments sound like your child?
  • "I feel stupid."
  • "The teachers hate me."
  • "No matter what I do, it is never enough."
  • "I wish I had friends, but everyone makes fun of me."
  • "Nobody 'gets me.' They just don't understand me."
  • "Can't you just home school me? I hate school."

If so, The Mission School of New Mexico could be exactly what you and your child have been looking for.

At The Mission School of New Mexico, children and their families are our primary focus. No one knows a child better than his or her family, and our faculty respect and depend upon each family's input and participation.

Our school was created out of a passion and love for children who are kind and bright yet totally out of sync with traditional school settings. A definite mismatch exists between our children's learning styles and the teaching strategies most often used in public and private classrooms. Because of this "lack of goodness of fit" between our children and their school settings, the students begin to see themselves as "dumb," lose their enthusiasm for learning, and begin to hate and avoid school at all costs. Their teachers often assumed that the students just did not care and were lazy, attention-seeking, and manipulative. The parents have often been blamed for their children's difficulties, and the stress upon the families becomes overwhelming.

Why Choose Us?

Our school is committed to teaching diverse learners with specific research-based strategies that best allow them to learn and retain information. Equally important to our commitment to our students' academic achievement is our focus on nurturing each child's sense of self-esteem and healthy interpersonal relationships.

Our school is a family of learners who respect each other's strengths and challenges. We emphasize the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. The result is a group of energetic and enthusiastic students and faculty who look forward to lifelong learning and compassionate missions of service for others and their communities.

We offer a 4-day school week with the required 180 days spread out across 12 months. This schedule promotes the retention of students' knowledge and skills while offering appropriate periods of rest between school weeks. Having Fridays free allows parents to schedule needed appointments without their children missing school. We offer open enrollment so that families wishing to have their children attend our school may apply at any time during the year.

Who are Our Students?

They are bright children who thrive in a warm, home-like environment with individualized faculty attention. Some of our students have Aspergers, a high functioning autism that presents many social challenges for them. Some have learning difficulties such as reading, spelling, or math dyslexias. Some have sensory integration issues and find many environments over-stimulating and distracting. Some have mental illnesses (such as bipolar disorder), who, with proper medication management and environmental supports, excel academically and socially.

We are not a special education school. We are not an alternative school for children with severe and destructive behaviors. We are a private school offering an excellent education with an excellent faculty.
